Tatyana Arsh,
P.E., Director
Columbus and central Ohio
continues to prosper,
attractive to families who
want strong, clean
neighborhoods and businesses
that depend on an excellent
workforce and a vibrant
local economy. The
Department of Public
Utilities provides now, as
it will into the future, an
enhanced quality of life for
all through the economic,
efficient and
environmentally responsible
stewardship of superior
public utilities that are
the essential foundation of
a great city and region.
The Department serves more
than one million people,
providing safe, dependable
drinking water,
environmentally sound
wastewater treatment and
storm drainage systems,
street lighting that helps
make neighborhoods safer and
municipal power. We continue
to work closely with our
suburban partners; through
contractual agreements, we
provide drinking water to 20
suburban communities and
sewer service to 22 suburban
communities.
We are ensuring Columbus and
central Ohio will continue
to have an adequate supply
of safe drinking water with
the construction of the
Upground Reservoir Project
and expansion of our South
Wellfield.
The Department is an
industry leader in
protecting our environment
with key components of Mayor
Michael B. Coleman’s Get
Green Columbus initiative.
Our 40-year, $2.5 billion
Wet Weather Management Plan
(WWMP) will significantly
improve surface water
quality in our local
waterways and sharply reduce
the number of basement
backups while strengthening
our local economy.
Our Stormwater Drainage
Manual, updated in 2006,
locks in requirements for
safe, responsible stormwater
runoff control to protect
waterways and wetlands.
Department of Public
Utilities’ employees have a
long, proud tradition of
providing excellent service
to our ratepayers. Together,
we are utilizing advances in
engineering, science and
technology to meet the
challenges and realize the
dreams of the 21st Century
to make Columbus and central
Ohio “the best place to
live, work and raise a
family.”
