CENTRAL OHIO RIVER PRIDE MONTH!
Each spring, litter is a visible problem
in many communities, with our stream and river banks being
no exception. Much of the litter in our communities washes
into our waterway areas. Litter is not only an eyesore, it
can affect community pride, water quality, endanger
wildlife, encourage crime and promote mosquito growth by
providing a place for water to stagnate.
The Department of
Public Utilities has declared May Central Ohio River Pride
Month. The 2008 schedule of events is posted below. For year-round
opportunities, please use the web links below to contact
your local watershed group.

OTHER WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:
The 2008 Riverfest Event
sponsored by the Mid-Ohio
Regional Planning Commission Greenways Program, will be held
Saturday, May 31, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Genoa Park in
downtown Columbus near COSI. Come celebrate the importance
of Ohio's waterways with boating, rock climbing, recycled
art, educational exhibits, and live music presented by Outdoor Source.

The storm drain marking program
is the perfect group or individual community service
project. More information is available on the We All Live Downstream

The Effects of Green Initiatives on Water Quality Issues,
presented by the Central Ohio Sierra Club on May 14 from 7:30 - 8:30
p.m. at the Ohio state University Museum of Biological Diversity

Household Hazardous Waste
Participate in the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio’s (SWACO)
Household Hazardous Waste Collection program. Never
dump harmful chemicals into a storm drain, drainage ditch,
stream or river. For collection locations,
